Half right. Today it's mined with NVIDIA graphics cards. The mining program that mines SASEUL coins (SL) in a mining pool (a group that mines together and splits the coins) runs on a graphics card.
Which cards work is listed under "What do you need?" in how to set it up.
The CPU (the computer's brain chip) isn't completely out of the picture. The official SASEUL docs list a node program that uses only the CPU. But how much a CPU actually mines is unknown.
Hard drives (the part that stores files) aren't used for mining. They're used for a different job: storing the record book.
What were people saying?
People said all sorts of things about what SASEUL is mined with. Some said "you mine it with hard drives." Others said "you need to buy a computer with a good CPU."
- A November 2023 Eroun Net article (a Korean news site) described the computers holding the SASEUL record book like this: they lend part of their storage space, like hard drives and memory, instead of graphics cards, so it's good for the environment
- A March 2024 Sankyung e-News article (a Korean news site) called SASEUL mining "done with CPUs." It's the kind where whoever does lots of calculating and finds the answer first gets the coins. The article said this was different from graphics card mining for Bitcoin and Ethereum
The 7950X is a CPU made by AMD. No source was found showing it ran short because of SASEUL. There's also a different coin behind the 7950X shortage. On March 12, 2024 (US time), Wccftech, an overseas computer hardware news site, said more people were mining another coin called Qubic with CPUs. It reported that the 7950X briefly ran short in the US because of this. SASEUL isn't mentioned in that article.
In early 2024, there were articles and forum posts saying SASEUL was mined with CPUs. The mining program used in pools today mines with graphics cards. The first official graphics card miner arrived in the node update of February 13, 2026 (2.2.0.1). In a notice on December 31, 2025, the SASEUL team said it sees keeping the network spread across many hands, not gathered in one place, as a key value. It added that GPU mining support would come as a side feature of this update. A more detailed reason isn't in public sources.
What do hard drives, CPUs and graphics cards each do?
Each computer part is good at a different job.
- Hard drive: stores files. It's used to keep big records like the SASEUL record book
- CPU: the computer's brain. It handles many different tasks one after another, cleverly
- Graphics card: does the same calculation a huge number of times at once. It was originally built to draw game graphics
If a CPU is one skilled cook, a graphics card is hundreds of people folding the same dumpling all at once. Mining means repeating the same calculation over and over. So a graphics card usually has a big edge over a CPU.
Here's what each of the three parts does in SASEUL.

What is SL mined with today?
A graphics card. The mining program used in pools today (SASEUL Miner) runs a check before it starts. It looks for a graphics card and CUDA (NVIDIA software that gives calculating work to the graphics card).
If either one is missing, it won't start.
You can also see signs of mining by calculation on the official SASEUL block explorer (the official site that lets anyone look at the record book). Every newly mined page of the record book has a box called Nonce. It holds the answer found while solving the puzzle.
So is the hard drive story wrong?
If it means drives are used for mining, it's not right. But according to the project description, keeping the record book gets its own reward. The SASEUL description on CoinMarketCap (a site that gathers information on coins from around the world) says computers that store the record book and answer questions also get rewarded.
It says lending hard drive space is rewarded too. But that's storing, not mining. How much SL the storing job actually earns couldn't be confirmed.
Can't you mine with a CPU now?
Not with today's pool mining program. Without an NVIDIA graphics card, it won't start. The March 2024 article says it's mined with CPUs, but that's a different program from today's.
The other route is to set up a node (a computer holding a copy of the record book) yourself. It takes more work, though. In a notice on September 15, 2026, the SASEUL team itself suggested that people who find setting up their own node a hassle consider a mining pool. It listed three pools and said they have no affiliation with the official team and that it doesn't vouch for them.
The node program is in the official SASEUL docs. On September 27, 2026, the overview in the official docs was opened directly. The node program comes in three versions.

It says mining with a graphics card needs the latest version and an NVIDIA driver. The command guide also has separate commands to turn graphics card mining on and off.
The official docs describe the lite version as "CPU-only," the one to use "if you do not need GPU mining." The docs do have a general command to start mining (mining start). But they don't explain how to mine with a CPU on the lite version. So whether a CPU can mine at all, and how much it would earn, is unknown. No public record of it was found either.
Node mining commands from the official docs (for Linux servers)
Graphics card mining is turned on in the order the official docs give. You use these after installing the node with Docker (a tool that runs programs packed in a box).

mining gpu check shows the state of graphics card mining. refine turns the mining rewards you've built up (resource) into SL.
What should you know before mining?
- To mine in a pool today, you need an NVIDIA graphics card. This mining program won't run on AMD graphics cards or on computers without a graphics card
- Be careful with pitches to buy an expensive new computer for mining. Graphics cards a few years old can still mine
- "It's good for the environment because it doesn't use graphics cards" doesn't fit today's mining. The record from one graphics card shows mining adds 55 W of power use. That's about like leaving an old incandescent light bulb on

What did the check find?
The saying: "SASEUL is mined with hard drives or CPUs, not graphics cards."
What checks out now: in early 2024 it was described as mined with CPUs. Today, SL in pools is mined with NVIDIA graphics cards. The first official graphics card miner arrived in the update of February 13, 2026.
As of September 27, 2026, the official docs also list CPU-only node programs (lite, arm64). How much a CPU earns is unknown. Linking the early 2024 7950X shortage to SASEUL is a forum claim. An overseas article from the same time pointed to mining of a different coin (Qubic).
Hard drives are used for storing the record book. According to the project description, that job also earns its own reward.
